Frequently Asked Questions

How exactly is a swimming pool built?

Simply stated, a swimming pool is built in a series of stages that begins with the design phase and ends with filling the pool with water. Between design & adding water to the pool, as a minimum, pool construction includes the following construction phases: Layout Grading & Excavation Installation of Reinforcing Steel Bars Plumbing Electrical Wiring Gunite Tile and Trim Decking Interior Finish Other common phases include Fencing, Landscaping and Masonry.

How do I select the right pool builder? Interview your prospective builder carefully.

What is his reputation in the community? Do you know a friend or neighbor who has used the same company with good results? How long has your contractor been in business and what is his experience? How is his standing with your local Building Department, the State Department of Consumer Affairs and/or Contractor’s Board? Are you comfortable that your property will be treated with dignity and respect? At Alamo Pool customer service is the first and foremost concern for our entire staff. We believe our expertise in construction, our experience in all types of challenges, and our effort to provide supreme service to all customers is not matched in the pool industry.

Sometimes advertisements promise pools at very low prices. Should I buy a pool like this?

It is possible to build a pool at a very low price. But you should be aware that to build a very low cost pool, equipment, structural elements, craftsmanship, and design are compromised. The old adage is still true: You gel what you pay for. At Alamo Pool we have learned that the cost difference between a great job and a poor one does not have to be significant. Your Alamo Pool professional will help you determine a budget and secure financing that works for you. We will design your pool to fit within those financial parameters you set, and will give you quality and beauty you can depend on.

Why do cost estimates vary when the pools seem to be the same?

The price of a pool is determined by much more than just the size and shape of that pool. And, unfortunately, many contractors do not include some of the most important factors affecting cost in their printed estimates. Those factors include: Craftsmanship Quality of materials Design Underground strength and durability Customer Service Time required for construction Warranties Alamo Pool estimates incorporate the highest quality materials, craftsmanship. design. and customer service. In addition, Alamo Pool never submits a low introductory bid with the intent of making expensive changes later during construction. Remember: Good work is never cheap, and cheap work is never good.

Tell us what you would like to do…and we can show you how to do it.

How should I decide on the design of my pool?

At your request, a design expert from Alamo Pool will meet with you at your home to discuss your pool needs and desires. He or she will ask you how you intend to use your pool. Is exercise important? How about family use? Where would the pool look best when viewed from your home? Our expert may take photographs, video, and sketches of your yard and will then prepare a custom design at no charge to you…a design that fits your needs AND your budget!

What factors affect the cost of my swimming pool?

Surprisingly, construction costs for the pool structure itself do not vary much from pool to pool. Prices can be affected slightly by ease of access onto your property, demolition requirements prior to construction, and local permit costs. The size and design of the pool affect cost too, but not as much as you might think. Much of the variation in price is based on what is called “hardscape.” Hardscape is what is placed around your pool to enhance its design. The size and materials used in your deck, patios, waterfalls, gazebos, planter walls, and many other features can be simple or sensational. As the customer, you have the greatest influence on your total budget as you control the design of your pool’s hardscape.

Is financing readily available for this type of project?

Tens of thousands of Texans have discovered they can give their families a swimming pool by merely taking their equity and converting it to cash. It is easy, inexpensive. and very tax wise. Easy: Financing is approved over the phone and documents are brought to you in your home. Inexpensive: Because of our sheer volume, we attract the very best lenders in the industry. Tax Wise: Every dollar of interest paid is taken as a direct deduction from your taxable income. At the same time. your pool will increase in value over the years right along with your home. You can also use your swimming pool financing to generate additional funds for other home improvement projects or to pay off other high interest, non-deductible credit cards. This often results in savings that literally pay for the home improvement.

What about warranties? Is my investment in a swimming pool well-protected?

Warranties are very important. At Alamo Pool we provide you with the strongest guarantee in the swimming pool industry. We are confident in the product we build and we offer a warranty that backs up our confidence. You should always ask for and compare the warranties when requesting estimates from builders. You should also remember that a warranty is only as good as the company that issues it. Alamo Pool has been building pools for over 25 years. We build our pools to last, and we will always be here to stand behind your swimming pool in the future. Anyone can offer a “lifetime warranty,” but if they aren’t in business for the duration of your pool’s life, then you haven’t got much of a warranty at all.

How much work is involved in owning and caring for a swimming pool?

With today’s conveniences, owning a swimming pool is easier than owning a car! Pool chemicals, testing and maintenance, cleaning, and preprogrammed filtration and heating can all be automated if you choose to include these options during your construction. Automatic pool cleaners and various sanitizing devices make your pool a pleasure to maintain. Your only concern will be finding more time to enjoy your pool or spa!
